These eight studies help us to understand the message of the whole Bible.
Part of the Interactive Bible Studies series.
If you've always wondered what the Old Testament is really about... If you feel like the Old Testament is a confusing mix of hard-to-understand laws and boring history... If you've ever been confused about how the Old Testament relates to Jesus... Then you need Full of Promise.
In this interactive Bible Study, Phil Campbell and Bryson Smith take us on a whirlwind tour of the Old Testament. In eight concise studies, we see the big breathtaking picture of creation, fall and the history of God's dealings with Israel; the whole story, with all its ups and downs, and with the certainty of God's promise shining through.
These studies help us to understand the message of the whole Bible. They show us not only the big picture of the Old Testament, but how the pieces fit together, and how they inexorably point towards the One who was to come: Jesus, in whom all God's promises are Yes and Amen.

Initially I wondered if this would prove to be a simplistic summary of the O.T, skipping through all the old familiar stories. I needn't have worried. Our home group, all Christians who know their Bibles, loved it. There is not only a freshness in this series of studies but, even better, lots of connections into the N.T. to explore the ultimate meaning and fulfillment of the O.T. narrative. The authors have managed to do something really useful: to open up the big picture and apply it in a personal way. Recommended.
This is the first book to be used at our house group. It is well laid out with excellent pointers to elicit discussion. A great resource for those wanting to explore the OT in more detail.
Our Home Group chose this book, as we felt we needed an overview of the history of the Jews. We've had 2 enjoyable sessions so far and think it is living up to its name!
We have just finished using our first matthiasmedia interactive Bible study and I have already put in an order for a second. Every member of our Home Group of nine people from a local Baptist and Catholic church found the commentaries informative, and the questions thought provoking and a good stimulus for discussion. To those of us whose previous experience of the OT was a series of apparently disconnected snapshots of people and events, "Full of Promise" was of immense value in showing us the path of God's plan of salvation for his creation.
This guide encourages the reader, through guided study, to draw out the central themes of the Old Testament. It is thought-provoking and enjoyable. Thoroughly recommended!
I have been using this book with a Friday night group which is a mix of believers and unbelievers. I took the studies through section by section and added my own application questions to keep the studies relevant. The studies gave an excellent base and challenged the attendees on the character of God, especially the bits where God orders the Israelits to kill the surrounding peoples! Through it the whole group has grown in its understanding of who God is with frequent references to our only way of slavation the Lord Jesus Christ. I would highly recommend this study.
I have been a Christian for many years and we recently used this study guide at housegroup. It provoked many great discussions and helped me understand how the old testament fits together and it's relevance today.
