This year our blog has seen many thought-provoking pieces from countless different authors. We hope that your thoughts have been stirred and your hearts encouraged by it. Have a look at our most-viewed blogs of 2019:
In this article, Rachel Gilson shares her story of coming out and later coming to faith.
“I gradually started to own that identity more and more. I knew from the culture that Christianity was against homosexuality. So by the time I was 18, I had concluded that Christians were both stupid and bigots.”
Richard Dawkins was asked by journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy in an interview recently, “If you could change the world, how would you change it?” His answer was that he would rid us of “anything that’s not evidence based, where factual knowledge is concerned”.
Unfortunately for Dawkins, that may mean that he needs to start ripping pages from his new book.
Back in April, we experienced quite the storm in the rugby world. Australian player, Israel Folau and Saracens Number 8, Billy Vunipola, defended their Christian beliefs online and received much public criticism. This is about rugby, but it’s not really about rugby. So if you’re a Christian who doesn’t like rugby, don’t switch off.
In this article, Professor John Lennox describes the time that he was pressured to give up his faith by a Nobel Prize winning physicist.
He said, “Lennox, do you want a career in science?”
“Yes, sir,” I replied.
“Then,” he said, “in front of witnesses, tonight, you must give up this childish faith in God. If you do not, then it will cripple you intellectually and you will suffer by comparison with your peers. You simply will not make it.”
Brexit, brexit, brexit… We posted this 4 part series back in April after we didn’t leave the EU on 29th March. It’s now December and the UK has almost left the EU 3 times. Until we do actually leave (and probably for some time after that) this blog series will help you think through our current political climate and what it means for us as Christians.
Part 1 - Searching for Certainty
Part 2 - Prosperity and Security
Part 3 - We Want to Win
Part 4 - Leadership Matters
If you are alive and reading these days, you have probably heard the term “mindfulness.”
You might know people who are practising mindfulness to help them navigate the pressures of daily life. Maybe it’s used in your school or workplaces as a tool to reduce stress and boost creativity. So what should Christians make of the mindfulness trend? Should we jump on the bandwagon? Should we be suspicious and hold it at arm's length? Or is there another way?
Alistair Begg wants us to pray more like Paul. To do that, he says we need to erase the two words that shut most of our prayers down. Here they are:
“Be with…”
In October, one author shared a few reasons why he and his family don’t do Halloween and what they do instead. We also heard from another family about how they do Halloween, you can read that piece here.
Church leader, Dave Griffith Jones, shares how his church creatively sought to address the issue of reaching and discipling more families on a small budget.
“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.” 1 Timothy 2 v 11
We went there.
