It’s been another great year for The Good Book Company! Let’s take a look back and celebrate how God has used our books to encourage Christians and their church families to keep going, keep growing, and keep sharing their faith.
In May, we were elated when Katy Morgan won an ECPA Christian Book Award in the Young People's Literature category for her retelling of the story of David, The Songs of a Warrior. We're even more thrilled that Katy has written another biblical retelling for 8-12 year-olds called The Outsider, this time focused on Ruth, which will be released in spring 2025.
The fall brought a significant stream of milestones. In September, we honoured Timothy Keller’s legacy as both his Galatians For You and Romans 1-7 For You surpassed 100,000 units in print sales and received the ECPA Bronze Sales Award. They are part of the “God’s Word For You” collection of expository guides by trusted Bible teachers that walk readers through books of the Bible verse-by-verse. Combining close attention to the text with Keller's trademark gift for clear explanation and compelling insights, these books show how the gospel message of righteousness received by faith transforms our perspective of God, our lives, and our eternity. Readers can use the series with accompanying Good Book Guides—inductive Bible studies for small-group settings.
Another September milestone was the Tales that Tell the Truth series for kids surpassing 1 million sales. This 14-volume series of hardback Bible storybooks by various authors includes The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross, Any Time, Any Place, Any Prayer, and God’s Very Good Idea. The latest book, The Man in the Tree and the Brand New Start, was launched in June of this year. The series combines faithful storytelling with stunning illustrations by Catalina Echeverri. Each book focuses on a true story from the Bible and teaches children wonderful truths about Jesus.
In October, we celebrated The Christmas Promise, written by Alison Mitchell, surpassing 100,000 print sales. The storybook is a captivating retelling of the Christmas story showing how God kept his promise to send a king unlike any other: a new, rescuing forever king.
November brought the good news that two of our books, Peace over Perfection, designed by Drew McCall, and C is For Christian, illustrated by Emma Skerratt, had won 2024 ECPA Top Shelf Awards. Top designers in the publishing industry judged book covers for their merits in appropriateness for the market, level of conceptual thinking, and quality of execution according to contemporary design standards and aesthetics.
In December, we were thrilled to learn that several of our books were honoured in the Christianity Today Book Awards. Does the Bible Affirm Same-Sex Relationships? by Rebecca McLaughlin was a finalist in the Apologetics/Evangelism category. Greg Welty, professor of philosophy at Southeastern Baptist Seminary, said, “With its marriage of compassion and intellectual rigor, this book equips us to respond thoughtfully to the cultural confusions of our age.”
In the Young Adult category, More to the Story by Jennifer M. Kvamme received the Award of Merit. Shelby Albott, an author, speaker, and campus minister, said, “Beyond its friendly and effective countering of secular messages, More to the Story helps readers see the goodness of God and the life of holiness his Word commands.” Kvamme’s book was also the winner of a 2024 Rooted Ministry Award in the category of Best New Books for Teenagers. The panel of judges noted, “Teenagers who read More to the Story will leave with both a view of our sexuality, bodies, and identities as purposed gifts from God and a sense of his deep love.”
As we reflect on 2024, we give glory to God for the privilege of putting hundreds of thousands of books into the hands of people who desire to grow in their love for Jesus or encounter him for the very first time. Our vision for 2025 will remain the same: to continue to be a trusted publisher for readers across the world as we strive to promote the Lord Jesus, his word, and his church through our books.
