People visit libraries looking for almost everything—from gripping whodunits, to lift-the-flap picture books, to niche local history, and endless wartime romances. But if a member of the public were wanting to find out about the Christian faith, would your local library have a book that could help?
Speaking Volumes is a trust that is seeking to make sure that more libraries do have Christian books available—and The Good Book Company is very pleased to be partnering with them. The organisation match-funds donations of books to public libraries—so that when a church or individual makes a gift of books, they pay 50% of the cost, and Speaking Volumes pays the remaining 50%. Books can be donated to public libraries, school libraries and prison libraries—in fact, anywhere where members of the public will be able to borrow them!
Speaking Volumes Director Paula Renouf says: “Lots of people assume that schools and libraries won’t accept Christian resources, but this is very far from the truth! Most libraries are delighted to receive free Christian books—they’re just waiting for you to offer! Making quality Christian resources accessible to the public is a way that churches can really serve their community.”
There are 100 books and DVDs available through the scheme: all are selected by Speaking Volumes experts because they are useful, readable and attractive to someone who may have no understanding or belief in God. And this year, two Good Book Company titles have been selected for the list: Passion, by Mike McKinley, and Tim Chester’s children’s book, Inspector Smart and the case of the empty tomb case file.
“Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
