I knew he was there, I knew that Jesus was God’s Son, but that was about as far as it went. They didn’t play a big part in my life and I didn’t really know how they related to each other or to me. However God began to work in my life through one of my great passions: football. Having played amateur football for 15 years, I was asked if I would play for a team that had a Christian manager. Before every game the manager would talk about his faith and what Jesus had to offer and how he could change your life. As I listened to him over the weeks and months it really started to make me question my own thoughts and actions, and I found myself wanting to learn more.
At the same time, my friend, James, came to be the Minister at St. Andrew’s Church, which I had been attending on a monthly basis for about a year. I think he could see I wanted to learn more about Jesus and was just waiting for some encouragement, which he duly gave me by offering me a place on the Christianity Explored Course. This is where I feel it all began for me and was my first real chance to learn what Christianity was all about and what Jesus had to offer me. As the course went along I had no problem accepting what it taught me: I knew I was a sinner; I understood all Jesus said and did.
The thing that I struggled to get my head around was how amazing grace is! I had to pinch myself to make sure that Jesus would really die for me. Since doing the course I am growing and developing as a person and as a Christian, with the help of the church family, little by little. This process of realisation of the truth has improved my whole life both inside and outside of church.
