“Excellent introduction to Jesus and His life and parables for little people”

Stories About Jesus will help your child learn about Jesus' parables and His death and resurrection for us. This is an excellent book to start your little ones off with learning about Jesus. I highly recommend this book.

“Omnibus format of the "Little Me, Big God series."”

Wow! Eight stories of Jesus in one book. It’s an omnibus format of the individual stories in the Little Me, Big God series. The book, gave me an opportunity to spend more time on Steph Williams storytelling and artwork. Also see the advantage of being both the author and illustrator which really did well in this new book.
Steph Williams approached this “omnibus” like a Sunday School teacher. She wants not just to make the stories understandable and enjoyable for kids but never missed the big picture. She is a careful teacher that wants to inject doctrine like the deity of Christ, discipleship and salvation. Yes the humor and playfulness of the book is there through the narrative, art and lettering but as I have said Williams is careful not for kids to focus more of the fun side but to know something about Jesus and the gospel. The Notes For Older Readers are must read in every “chapter breaks” as a guide to dig deep on the story.

“Cute, Fun and Quirky With Good Truths”

A fun, quirky way to share Bible stories, Jesus’ parables and miracles and death on the cross with young readers. I believe this collection is best geared towards preschoolers and kindergartners as the stories are very simple. My energetic six year old stayed engaged in the stories because they’re short, easy to understand and told in an entertaining manner. The illustrations are eye-catching and vibrant in color.

I like that this contained 8 stories in one book as it was easy to read in one sitting, but also could be broken down into separate sittings. Each story offers a little more in-depth reading at the end for older readers, further explaining the Biblical truth and giving Scripture references which are helpful for digging deeper.

The last story - the story of the cross and Jesus’ Resurrection - did not contain the steps of repentance but held a rather lightly glossed over “anyone who believes in God can be friends with Him” message. I wish this had been done differently.

Overall, cute and unconventional with good truths! Worth the money if you’re looking for something fun and different, maybe to read on the go or before bed but not necessarily a long term keeper.

“Fun & simple resource for toddlers and preschoolers”

This treasury contains 8 short and simple stories aimed at toddlers. The words are easy to understand and engaging, and the pictures are fun and make little kids giggle.

I've used this book as a morning devotional with the kids for a week and all of them engaged (from aged 1 to 7). I especially appreciate the Note for Older Readers at the end of each story, which gives more context and explains how the story applies, and also the actual Bible passage to read with my oldest. The additional content greatly helps me to go deeper with my older kids.

I love how sturdy this new hardbound book is (that also comes with a ribbon bookmark!), and would recommend this resource to families who want to help their toddlers and preschoolers know Jesus.

“simple sweet stories”

8 stories that are a simple retelling of stories we find in scriptures.

What I loved: I love the notes for older readers after each story. It helped us dig deeper into scripture and provided the scripture after each story.

What wasn’t my fav: it seemed a little too simple at times. I would have liked a little more depth to the stories. Not my absolute favorite. I would rather pick up Tales that Tell Truth or Do Great things for God.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Meant for young readers”

These stories are very short and bite-size for young readers. If you are dealing with small attention spans, this could be a good resource for you when introducing bible stories.

➕ The book also includes a “Notes For Older Readers” page after each story which includes more information about the meaning of the story from the Bible and the reference in the Bible for further reading.

➖ The writing style in this book is a bit “silly” and is very much a condensed version of Bible stories. This could be a positive as mentioned above for short attention spans but a negative for me in that sometimes it seems to sacrifice accuracy for “entertainment.”

For instance, in the story of the feeding of the five thousand found in John 6, the book calls the loaves and fishes “sandwiches” or in the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus’ rebuke to Martha is summarized as “Martha, Martha, you’re all in a flap.” While none of these liberties seem to be in opposition to the meaning of the Bible stories, sometimes the “dumbing down” of the text felt unnecessary.

🟰 As I was reading these with my boys, they were engaged in the stories, which is always a win. However, this style of storytelling isn't my favorite. The text and the illustrations carry a big, accentuated approach with quick page turns and simplified anecdotes. These may be well-loved by young readers in your home, but I think even 2-4 years old could be given a little more credit in terms of what they can handle.

*Thanks so much to @thegoodbookcompany for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“Cute book of stories about Jesus!”

Stories about Jesus is a great simple book that contains 8 true stories from the Bible. I love how simple and fun the stories and illustrations are in this book! They clearly explain God's love and grace for us in sending Jesus to do what we could not do. This book is great for you to read to younger children, but also includes Bible passages and extra content for older readers! It will be great for my 6 and almost 9 year olds this year!

“Could have been better”

This book could have been better. It is geared toward preschoolers, but the author chose to use juvenile language and take liberties that were not needed. I am incredibly picky about the Bible storybooks that I read to my children because I want the stories to be as accurate as possible. Most Biblical stories about Jesus are already understandable to young children without the need for oversimplification. I also found the illustrations to be odd.

“Simple and relatable for little ones!”

I love how simple this book is for littles ones. The stories are retold with simple words. After the story there is a page about the story for older children and with some explanation. I especially love that there is Scripture on the pages after that so you can read the actual account as well. I just wish it was taken from a translation that is more literal. This book pulls from the NIV. Also, some of the simplification of the story and silly word choices make it more relatable for toddlers, but could come off a little irrelevant. Otherwise, this is a book that really grabbed the attention of my toddler and is a great tool and resource for having conversations and sharing Jesus and the gospel with your children. I think we will enjoy using this one with our family.

“Compact Resource!”

This book is a beautifully illustrated collection of eight stories about Jesus's life and teachings. The simple and expressive language makes it easy for young children to understand, and each story includes additional context for older readers. This book is a great way to introduce children to who Jesus is and share age-appropriate messages about faith and love.

I like the compact size of this hardcover book, as well as the beautiful ribbon bookmark that is attached to it. Great resource for travelling with young kids!
