“So well done!”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

This book is PERFECT for family devotions, morning baskets, bedtime reading and more.

As it goes through letters A to Z, your child will grow in their understanding of what it means to be a Christian: and even more specifically the words that God has given us in His word as we follow him…

- Adopted
- Members
- Overflowing
- Pilgrim

…to name a few.

Each spread contains a beautifully illustrated page with the designated letter and a corresponding Bible verse and a theologically rich devotional with discussion questions and a prayer.

This book is such a gift and one to open time and time again as you work to disciple your children’s hearts (and your own!).

*I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review.

“Beautiful and engaging devotional!”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

I loved this beautiful book. The teaching is so solid, the illustrations are beautiful and unique.
Each letter has a verse to go with it and concludes with reflection questions and a prayer. I really appreciated the way some of the language was explained, words like "upheld," "zealous" and "citizen." The devotions are very clear and easy to follow, but are taught in a way that will help children remember them. I read through this book on my own, but I plan to use this as a devotional for our morning basket! It would also be perfect for bedtime devotions and would make a lovely gift!

“A Wonderful Resource”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

This is a shortened version of my full review. My full review is available at: https://www.lifeisstory.com/childrens-books/c-is-for-christian-alistair-begg-and-emma-skerratt/

This picture book teaches kids about what it means to be a Christian. It goes through the alphabet from A to Z, introducing different concepts, such as Christians being adopted, forgiven, light, new creations, pilgrims, sent, upheld, and victorious. Each letter has a double-page spread devoted to it, and the first page features an illustration for that theme, along with a Bible verse. The next page includes a page-length devotional from Alistair Begg.

The illustrations from Emma Skerratt are beautiful and creative, and I really enjoyed them. Each illustration shows a letter and represents the associated idea in some way, like when the trail on a map shapes the letter 'P' for 'pilgrim.' With each devotional reading, Begg starts out by asking a question that relates to the concept, such as, "What is the longest journey you've ever been on, and where were you going?" After that, he explains that day's word, its connection to Scripture, and what it means for the Christian life. Each devotional ends with questions that families can discuss together, along with an example prayer.

"C is for Christian" is a wonderful resource. I would recommend this for Christian families and Sunday school contexts, and it is also suitable for proficient readers to work through on their own. This would make a great gift for a child who is a new believer, or who has just experienced another spiritual milestone. I also appreciate how ecumenical this book is. This covers basic, foundational information about what it means to be a Christian without getting into specific denominational beliefs, and it is appropriate for a broad audience.

I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

“Alistair Begg nailed it!”

- I like the theme of this book: our identity in Christ and Alistair Begg nailed it in giving words on each letter. This gives the readers encouragement that we are not just believers that will be going to heaven, but we are a "somebody" before God. It's relevant too especially in this age of identity crisis among our young ones. Glad to have something that will anchor them to God's Word. This is sort of a devotional (with Bible verse, text, reflective questions and prayer). I also enjoyed the typographic art by Emma Skerratt. The book cover is lit. However, I wish there was more artwork in this book. Still a two thumbs up for me.

“Beautifully Illustrated, Theologically Sound, Must-Have ABC Book!”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

"Being a Christian is the most wonderful, exciting, life-changing thing anyone can be." But what words can you use to describe what it means to be a Christian?

C is for Christian takes you through the alphabet while completing the sentence: A Christian is...

Each letter is beautifully illustrated and contains a Bible verse, an example or story, questions, and a prayer. I was truly amazed at the beauty of this book. The illustrations are breathtaking. Each letter is unique and the colors are vibrant and joyful. This is my new favorite ABC book and a must-have for your home library. It is the perfect family read-aloud, and would make for a great daily or weekly devotional.

“A stunning and theologically rich treasury for children.”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

The illustrations in this book are absolutely stunning! These illustrations are by far my favorite that I have seen from this year. Also, there are no depictions of Christ in this book. Written to be a devotional for children, it takes you through each letter of the alphabet and introduces chidlren to the meaning of being a Christian A-Z. Example: A is for adopted, B is for branch, C is for Citizen etc..

Alistair Begg does a wonderful job expalining what it means to be a Christian with the gospel message throughout. This book is truly a treasury of theology and one I am so excited to have in our home library!

Each devotional page contains:

đź–‹Letter of the Alphabet
đź–‹Corresponding Scripture
đź–‹Explanation
đź–‹Questions
đź–‹Prayer

Thank you @thegoodbookcompanyusa for a copy of this book for my honest thoughts!

“beautiful and challenging”

(Review written for 'C is for Christian')

This was a cute, fun book to walk through with my kids. From the introduction letter, Alistair confirms that the book looks at twenty-six different words that answer the sentence: A Christian is...

And of course, to add a bit more excitement, the words follow the letters of the alphabet.

Alistair dedicates two page spread to each word. The first includes a very beautiful, engaging illustration that displays the essence of the word. It also includes a scripture reference. The second page includes a question that stems from the word and scripture reference followed by a very detailed explanation. To conclude, Begg adds additional reflection questions along with a written prayer for parent and child to say together.

Some of the words used throughout the book:

- Adopted
- Example
- Jewel
- New Creation
- Qualified
- Upheld
- Zealous

At the very end of the book, the is a summary of all the letters and their respective words with a challenge to memorize them all and remember who we are in Christ. A second challenge to memorize all the scripture references for each word as well.

This was definitely a great addition to our kids' library and a great challenge to utilize through the summer or during school to help each of us remember our identity in Christ.
