Seven studies examining the Lord's Prayer in detail and how it should shape our prayers and lives today.
Part of the Good Book Guides series.
In these studies, Tim Chester helps small groups to examine the Lord's Prayer line by line, exploring other passages in Matthew's Gospel along the way.
As we learn more about the prayer Jesus taught us, we'll get to know God better and seek to live according to his purposes.
Each study is designed to last between 1 and 1.5 hours, but can alternatively be split into two sessions. Contains ideas for starter discussions and for personal and group prayer as well as a focus on practical application. Substantial leader's guide included.

Has been good for our group to look afresh at the seven phrases of the Lord’s Prayer. Well known words but good to spend time reviewing how the Lord Jesus wanted us to pray Simple questions on accompanying passages were helpful. Overall happy to recommend this guide. Thanks Good Book
Our church small group has just recently finished studying this Good Book Guide to the Lord's Prayer. At an informal meeting afterwards, one member volunteered that it was probably our best study so far. (We have been together for many years and have used a variety of guides). Other voices quickly echoed his sentiment.
We are a group of 12 people with very different educational and social experiences, and a variety of denominational backgrounds, yet all are hungry to know more of God in his Word. Part of my reason for suggesting this topic was that some in the group were obviously uncomfortable when it came to praying aloud.
The questions in The Good Book Guides are clearly expressed and invite thoughtful responses to the Bible teaching, both in respect of our personal lives and of the life of the churches we represent. This title sparked off lively discussion. Tim Chester has supplied useful background comments throughout the studies, along with lots of supplementary Scripture passages, but avoids cluttering the main text. His Leader's Guide has been extremely helpful for all our participants. I love 'the big idea' section, which distils the message of each session and keeps the study on course. Individual chapters stand out, e.g. 'Your will be done', which took us deep into Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, 'Forgive us our sins', reminding us of the magnitude of God's grace and our consequent obligation to be of all people the most merciful, and, perhaps the most powerful, "Lead us not into temptation", with its potent reminder of our Lord's resistance to recurrent temptation, and, for us, the challenge, through Peter's failure, to humility and vigilance.
The real joy for me, at the end of our 7 weeks, was to have seen the group unconsciously becoming more confident in prayer. Everyone was taking part.
