This is a great resource for families, Sunday schools, and church libraries. There are very few resources available that focus on Deborah or on the time period covered in Judges, and this book helps fill in that gap.... continue reading
We have oodles of Bible-based storybooks, but this one stands out because (1) the artwork was ethnically accurate, (2) the story was detailed w/ names of Barak and Sisera and battle points, yet it still very much appeals to my toddler!... continue reading
The story of Deborah is hidden among the stories of the Judges - the more popular Judges being Samson & Gideon. There are very few books that help children (and parents) understand better the story of Deborah.
This book does that - and in an extremely engaging way. The repeated refrain found in this particular book about listening & obeying God was so catchy my 2 year old could repeat it to me after reading the book to her just once. I absolutely love the books in these series because they hold such great truths for little ones that also serve as much needed reminders to me the parent as I read these books to my child.
I gave this book to my friend Michelle for her children (aged 6, 4 & 2). She reported: "Tim (6, nearly 7) says he loves these books...[Deborah and the Very Big Battle; Moses and the Very Big Rescue] Why? I asked. “Because they are true mummy.”
Rachel and Caleb have yet to read them as Tim has read them in bed every night.
I loved the formulaic recipe Engage (put your finger to your lips/ear in Deborah) (counting backwards in Moses)
Repeat, repeat, repeat the message
And the praise song at the end.
I think the counting down in Moses was my best.
For Bible story books, they are probably the most engaging Bible storybook with depth not just glossing over the actual story to make a nice bedtime story."
