Description

Unit 1 for 5-7s looks at the subject of 'What has God done for his people? Jesus - from Luke's gospel'.

The child's component is a Treasure box. The child makes a different item each week to keep in their Treasure box, to reinforce that week's teaching.

This child's component accompanies the Click Unit 1: 5-7s Leaders Manual. There is also a Leader's Pack available.

CLICK is a Bible-based programme for teaching and discipling children from 3-11 years. The CLICK curriculum is based on the belief that the Bible’s own theological framework should direct what is taught and how it is taught. CLICK is Bible-based, teaching the major events, concepts and doctrines of the Bible. It’s also great fun!

“Really useful resource”

(Review written for 'Click Unit 1: 5-7s Leader's Manual')

We have found the Click series refreshingly different. There are many ideas for each session and so what suits our group can easily be selected. The undated weeks means that we get better value for money as we do not have a Sunday School session every week of the month. There is continuity between sessions so that the kids can build up a really good understanding of a theme over time.

“Great little boxes”

Perfectly proportioned and first class quality. Easy for the age range targeted to assemble.

“good, but too much material”

(Review written for 'Click Unit 1: 5-7s Leader's PACK (Manual + Posters + Child's Component)')

This module starts in a place no-one else has suggested! Jesus as a growing child is such a good idea. However, there is far too much material in each lesson and to fully use the suggested route through the lesson would take probably an hour. The teacher has to be selective and probably leave most of the games etc out in order to get the message across. The 6 year-olds I am using it with like the adventure box and the map - illustration is so important. Some of the suggested games seem too advanced for 5-7 year olds. There is also an assumption that the class will be quite large. I only have 2/3 children and some of the activities are just not possible. Be selective and don't try to use everything and I think this is quite good for this age group.

“Great fun each week”

The children love the adventure box and can't wait to see what we will put in it each week.
They keep asking "When can we take them home".

“OK”

The boxes are fine and colourful etc, but in components I would value more something for them to take home each week, which make up into something representing that day's text or similar, I felt that I still had all the preparation to do and materials to supply, which is difficult when there are time constraints in preparation and Sunday Club time.

“Excellent”

This adventure box is the "envy" of the other Sunday School teachers. The children in our class love them and really enjoy filling them each week.

Our only issue is where to store them during the week and this is particularly a problem for us as we have quite a large group!

“Brilliant”

I like Click & started to use it as it was a follow on to another set of materials from down under called Trowel. It was Biblical, systematic & always had good craft & activity ideas. It is helpful if other groups use Click as well so you can be sure the teaching is consistant through the ages. Often the lesson part was too long but I abreviated this to meet the needs of the room, children & time constraints & tried to get across one or two key points that were outlined in the material.

“lots of ideas”

What I like:
The child's component
Lots of suggestions for activities
A photocopiable activity sheet for every week.
The extras - nice posters to display in the classroom

What I like less:
Tends to try and push too many concepts into one lesson. The story can be a bit too wordy for the younger members.

How I use it (bear in mind I'm only on week three!):
Write my own adaptation of the Bible story (pirating any particularly good bits from the one in the leaders guide!)and devise my own visual aids for telling it. Then enjoy the fact that everything else for a good lesson can be comfortably pulled straight from the leaders guide with minimum shopping, effort or planning!
