Description

Here is the news: According to reliable sources, the long-awaited king of Israel, the Messiah, has finally arrived. He has come wielding the authority of God himself to heal the sick and make the blind see, to still the raging storm and to plunder Satan's house.

In a bizarre twist, however, sources also say that this Messiah speaks repeatedly of his impending death and humiliation. Could this refer to the growing opposition of the religious authorities? And if he is indeed rejected and killed, where will this leave the kingdom of God he is claiming to bring?

For full details, see News of the Hour, ten eye-opening studies in the gospel of Mark.

“Very helpful”

Excellent study on Mark

“A good group study guide”

This was another of the several excellent Interactive guides we have used in our 'intermediate' bible study group of mature CofE Christians. Good structure, good questions (which I often supplement or occasionally deviate from), robust theology and application.

The only comment I would add with this one is caution over the study that covers notorious chapter 13 of Mark's gospel - the stance the authors take is one of three common biblical views put forward and I recommend extra study by the leader to make sure they know the other views (ultimately because we felt the others stances are more plausible than the one held the authors of this study!).

“Very helpful”

Our small bible study group wanted support for its study of Marks gospel. We wanted an interesting framework that prompted discussion. We found the explanations of the texts useful, though on occasions we needed to refer to other commentaries, and the questions at the right level-not too simple. We are currently half way through the book, using one section each week, which fits well with our needs

“Great for our study group”

We have studied a number of other guides previously, some of which we felt were prompting obvious answers to the questions. News of the Hour however, is giving food for thought without being patronising or prescriptive.
We are a mixed group (mid-thirties to eighty plus) but like the way the book is not aimed solely at 'new' Christians.
Thank you, we look forward to reading more of your books.
