Description

Gaming is multi–billion–dollar industry, which has been growing massively in the last few years. It seems that everyone is gaming in one way or another. You might not think that the Bible has anything to say about gaming, but Reagan Rose has written this helpful book on what our relationship with gaming should look like.

Track is a series of books designed to disciple the next generation in the areas of culture, doctrine, & the Christian life. While the topics addressed aren’t always simple, they are communicated in a manner that is.

With grace and wisdom, he navigates the topic carefully, but truthfully, the scope of this book goes even further. Not only did I finish reading the book with thankfulness, but I was motivated to examine all areas of my life in order to surrender them to the glory of God. Praise the Lord! This book belongs in the hands of every Christian.

Video games aren’t sinful, but without godly wisdom gaming can lead to sin. My friend Reagan Rose has given our generation a simple, practical, and biblical game plan that will allow you to enjoy gaming without neglecting the glory of God.

“A STUDENT’S GUIDE TO GAMING”

This book is not for Pharisees! Rose is at pains to recognise, affirm and celebrate gaming as good. It is something to be received with thanksgiving to the God who richly gives us all things to enjoy!

As with all good things, gaming and the player’s engagement with it are to be evaluated in the light of God’s Word - for good things may become idols. As Paul the one-time Pharisee discerned, though all things were lawful for the first century Christians of Corinth, he and they needed to beware of being dominated by anyone or anything other than Christ.

Rose is aware of the dangers of small-minded, legalistic Pharisaism and successfully avoids them, inviting each reader’s personal reflections and choices in line with God’s Word and Wisdom. What is acceptable to him may not be acceptable to his readers. What is safe for him may be dangerous for others. And vice-versa... Rose has read Paul on the strong and the weak… And also Hebrews 5:14b…

Just as we need to be critical in what we eat, in what we watch and in what we listen to, so we need to know ourselves, and to exercise wisdom when it comes to gaming.

Rose anticipates the possible knee-jerk, negative reaction of some to the violence permeating many games. Discussion of this issue is delayed to the seventh of the nine chapters. And he wisely cautions against the pleasures of destruction…

Positively, gaming taps into God-given human desires for adventure, imagination, stewardship and reward…

Negatively, beware of the company you keep, the squandering of precious time, and the danger of being dominated…

Remember, Video games are designed to keep us playing for as long as possible…
I Corinthians 6:12…
